Syracuse Stage will host “Ring of Fire: The Music of Johnny Cash” on June 9, when the musical’s cast will perform an ode to the music legend.

The 10-person cast will perform 38 of Cash’s classic songs like “I Walk the Line,” “Folsom Prison Blues” and “A Boy Named Sue.” Tickets are on sale now online and at the Syracuse Stage box office, pricing from $20 to $53.

“He’s not defined by one era of music the way some popular musicians are,” said Robert Hupp, Syracuse Stage’s artistic director, in a press release. “He’s transcended any particular era and has broad appeal because his music was authentic and true to who he was.”

During his 50-year music career, Cash spanned across multiple music genres from rock and roll to blues to gospel. He is a member of the Country Music, Rock and Roll and Gospel Music Halls of Fame.

“There’s a depth to his artistry, from his country roots to the man he became,” said Jill Anderson, Syracuse Stage’s managing director, in the release.

Created by Richard Maltby Jr., conceived by William Meade and directed by Rand Myler, the musical commemorates Cash’s long-lived musical career and his life. The cast has performed the show at venues all over the nation from New York to Arizona, according to the press release.

The performers take on the multiple instruments Cash used in his music, including harmonicas, fiddles, guitars, mandolins and drums.

Following the show, ticketholders can join the cast for a free celebration with food, drinks and live music performed by the American country rock band Pale Green Stars.
