Syracuse men post best NCAA championship result under Fox; women finish 22nd

The Syracuse men’s team posted its best  NCAA championship result under head coach Chris Fox on  Saturday with a 10th-place finish in Terre Haute, Ind. The women’s team finished 22nd.

Before nationals, the Orange won the Atlantic Coast Conference title last weekend and took the NCAA Northeast Regionals title in the championship season.

The SU men cracked the Top 10 at nationals for the first time in Syracuse history with 329 points. Redshirt senior Robert Molke led the team finishing in 51st place with a time of 30:55.0. Molke missed All-American qualification by just less than 10 seconds.

Following Molke were redshirt senior Griff Graves in 55th place, redshirt freshman M.J. Erb in 59th place, redshirt sophomore Martin Hehir in 113th place and junior Ryan Urie in 127th place.

In the women’s race, sophomore Margo Malone was the first Orange runner to place, taking 49th overall with a time of 20:53.5. Malone missed placement for All-American by just under 7 seconds.



The other four Syracuse point scorers were sophomore Meredith Speakman finishing in 110th place, sophomore Brianna Nerud in 133rd place, senior Alexandra Clinton in 174th place and Sydney Leiher in 192nd place. The women’s team placed 22nd overall with 516 points.

With the NCAA championship, the 2013 season concluded for both the women’s and men’s teams.
